LOUISVUITTON.COM - Louis Vuitton Events Wait and Sea
"The Island", Louis Vuitton’s new store in South East Asia, brings back to life the spirit of sea travel as it was probably experienced by travellers at the beginning of the twentieth century; a time when colossal ocean liners provided the most exceptional service to their clients. At that time, Louis Vuitton started to offer this new kind of passengers all sort of wardrobes, trunks and garment bags especially designed for the needs of ocean crossing, one of them being the Steamer bag. Originally just an accessory to complement a whole set of luggage, the Steamer is now considered the forerunner of the soft sided bags, and has now gained almost a symbolic status for Louis Vuitton. All these travel goods were primarily created for their convenience, they progressively became more than that. In this specific nautical case of 'the Island", Peter Marino and Moshe Safdie have incorporated a certain seafaring aesthetic, embodied by their magnificent floating edifice, from the cruising interior design to the gigantic wave-breaker aspect of the facades. Luxury travel is definitely part of Marina Bay’s culture and it seems they now have a new vessel to lead the fleet.
