On 29th January 2012, the Louis Vuitton Rome Etoile Maison will open its doors on the famous San Lorenzo in Lucina Square, in the mythical Etoile cinema.
Built in 1907, this cinema was the first in the city and opened as the Lux and Umbra which made silent films famous. Ceremonies, exceptional screenings and cultural events followed one after another for decades, making this cinema “the place” to go for film buffs in Rome. In 1970, it became the Etoile continuing to support quality films, right up until its final closure in 1991. Respectful of this building’s prestigious past, this iconic store will house the most beautiful creations of the Maison, it will also offer projections on a big screen, keeping alive the culture of the “Dolce Vita” that is so characteristic of Rome. Each month, a new collection based on a chosen theme will be presented to visitors. “Rome as seen by classic Italian cinema” will start the series. Later in the year, Louis Vuitton will invite video-director artists to revisit Italian film patrimony. “We have tried to create a distinctive project which simultaneously combines exceptional craftsmanship, art and culture.” stated Yves Carcelle, President of Louis Vuitton
